Open the printer’s cartridge door, and then ensure your print cartridge is properly seated. Close the door and ensure it closes properly.

Step 3: Take the new cartridge out of its package. Put the old cartridge in the box so it can be recycled. Also, ensure you hold the cartridge on each end rather than touching the roller surface or shutter. Doing this can damage the cartridge.
Step 4: Rock the cartridge forth and back gently. This is to ensure the toner is evenly distributed.
Step 5: Check the cartridge’s left side, you will find a tab there; bend it till it breaks loose. Now, pull it to take off the sealing tape. Put the tape and tab in the box so they can also be recycled.
Step 6: Put the new cartridge in the printer and ensure it locks properly in place. Close the cartridge door once the cartridge is properly installed.
If the toner light is still blinking at this point, then contact HP Support for further assistance as the product may need to be serviced.

How to Fix HP Deskjet 6540 Flashing Arrow
Do the following to fix your HP Deskjet 6540 flashing arrow and power light:
Step 1: Remove the papers from the paper tray and also take out your cartridges.
Step 2: Unplug the printer’s power cord from both the power source and the printer.
Step 3: Slide your carriage from the right to the left with your hands. Also, use your fingers to roll the printer’s rollers from the back.
Step 4: If rollers won’t roll, or the carriage won’t slide, hold down your power key for about 60 seconds. Repeat step 3 afterward.
Step 5: Check the removed cartridge contacts for debris and ink buildup. Use a dry cotton swab to clean off the debris from the contact. Ensure you wipe just the contacts and do not spread debris or ink on other parts of the cartridge.
Step 6: Now, dip a swab in your distilled water. Ensure your squeeze the swab properly to remove excess water.
Step 7: Clean the contacts. Ensure this is the only part you clean.
Step 8: Allow the cartridge to sit for about 10 minutes so it can dry off. You can also use a dry swab to clean it dry.
Step 9: Now, close the cartridge door, but do not reinstall the cartridge.
Step 10: Plug the power cord back in the printer and power source.
Step 11: Put in any of the cartridges (only one), in their respective spot. Close the access door and check if the lights are still blinking.
Step 12: Remove the first cartridge you installed and install the second one. Also, check if the lights are still blinking.
If the light stopped blinking when you installed one of the cartridges, then the cartridge is okay. If the light continues blinking for one cartridge, while it stopped blinking when you installed the other, then the installed cartridge is faulty and has to be replaced.
Also, if the light doesn’t stop blinking when you installed the two cartridges, then both of them may be bad. In which case, you would need to have them replaced.
If replacing the cartridges doesn’t solve the issue, then your printer may need to be serviced. Contact HP Support for further assistance in this case.
