How Do I Turn On AirPrint On My HP Printer? [Solved]

The AirPrint feature allows you to print directly and wirelessly from an Apple device such as a Mac computer, iPod Touch, iPhone, and iPad to an HP printer. Therefore, in this section, we will guide you on how to turn on the AirPrint feature on your HP printer.

How to Turn on AirPrint on HP LaserJet Pro Printers

To turn on AirPrint on HP LaserJet Pro printers, follow the instructions below step by step:

1. Check AirPrint Compatibility

The first thing you need to do to turn on AirPrint on your HP printer is to confirm that your devices are compatible with AirPrint.

How to Check AirPrint Compatibility

Do the steps below to check the compatibility of your devices with AirPrint:

Step 1: Check if your HP printer is compatible with AirPrint by checking if your printer is listed in this list. If your HP printer supports mobile printing solutions, then you will find it in that list.

Step 2: Confirm that your Apple device is compatible and supports AirPrint:

  • For Mac computers: You need an operating system of at least Mac OS X 10.7. Newer versions are also compatible. There is no AirPrint support for MAC OS 10.6 or older versions.
  • For iOS Devices: Your device must be running on iOS 4.2 or any newer version (iPhone 3GS or newer, iPod Touch and iPad third generation).

Step 3: Ensure that your device has applications that support AirPrint:

  • Any application with printing support will support AirPrint on Mac computers.
  • These applications types support AirPrint on iOS devices: Mail, iBooks PDFs, Safari, Photos, and Third-party applications that have built-in printing.

2. Connect your Apple Device and HP Printer to a Single Wireless Network

To turn on AirPrint, your Apple device and printer needs to be connected to a single wireless network.

Important: AirPrint doesn’t work via USB. Therefore, if your HP printer and Mac computer, time Capsule, or AirPort Base Station is connected via USB, then you should use the printer’s software in the Apple Software Update rather than AirPrint.

How to Connect your Apple Device and HP Printer to the Same Wireless Network

Follow the steps below to connect your Apple device and HP printer to the same wireless network:

Step 1: Turn your HP printer on and confirm that it has entered the ready state.

Step 2: Ensure that your HP printer is actively connected to your wireless network.

Step 3: Ensure that your Apple device (Mac computer, iPod Touch, iPhone, or iPad) is connected wirelessly to the network your printer is connected to.

Note: You can connect your laptop via a wireless or wired (Ethernet) network.

3. Download your HP Printer’s Latest Firmware on your Computer

The firmware of certain older HP printers must be updated to ensure AirPrint compatibility. Hence, if you own an HP LaserJet CP1525, CM1415 MFP, or M1536 MFP, then you must upgrade your firmware before you turn on AirPrint.

Note: Upgrading your printer firmware is not necessary except for the printers we listed above. Hence, if you don’t own any of the above-listed printers, then you can move to item 4.

Step 6: Under the section for “Firmware” click on your printer’s firmware filename. This action will allow more information to be displayed.

Note: If you can’t find the firmware listed for your printer, then it means that your HP printer is running the latest version already.

Step 8: Turn off and turn on your printer once the update is complete.

4. Locate and/or Modify the AirPrint Name of your Printer

Can You Turn an HP Printer Into A Sublimation Printer? [Answered]

You can turn an HP printer into a sublimation printer depending on the model and type of your HP printer.

First of all, you need a new printer that hasn’t been used and is in pristine condition. This is necessary to prevent the sublimation ink from mixing with regular ink.

Also, your printer must have an ink tank instead of regular ink cartridges. One of the reasons for this is that it is next to impossible to get sublimation ink cartridges that will fit your HP printer. Therefore, you should use an ink tank printer that allows you to simply pour the sublimation ink into the tank without much fuss.

Furthermore, your printer must operate on pressure (piezo) technology instead of thermal technology. This is important due to the build of the sublimation paper that will be used for the process.

Once your HP printer meets the criteria we just mentioned above, then you can turn it into a sublimation printer.

Now that you know this especially if you own a printer that meets the above criteria, you must be dying to know how to turn your HP printer into a sublimation printer. We recommend that you continue reading to learn how.

How to Turn HP Printer into Sublimation

To turn your HP printer into a sublimation printer, do the following:

1. Get a Brand New HP Printer

As we said earlier, you need a new printer to ensure that the regular ink doesn’t mix up with the sublimation ink that you will add to the tank. When such a mixture occurs, the ink’s vigilance will be lost thereby causing it to be unable to stick to the material.

2. Pour the Sublimation Ink into your Printer’s Ink Tanks

Once you’ve got the printer, you need sublimation ink since regular ink can’t be used for the process. At this point, you will have to pour the ink into the ink tanks.

3. Download the Image You Want To Use

At this point, you should download the image you intend to sublimate if you don’t already have it on your computer. Once you’ve got it, you will need to open it via any sublimation software such as the Silhouette Studio app, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, Adobe InDesign, GIMP, or Pixlr.

In the app, you can then edit the proportions and size of the image. Hence, you can either increase or reduce the size. You can even change the picture orientation as you desire.

4. Print

After making the adjustments, it is time to print the image. In this case, you won’t be using the regular A4 paper; instead, you should get a sublimation paper. In most cases, you can use paper with letter size for the process.

Once you get the paper, you then have to print the image. The process involved in doing this varies depending on the sublimation software you used. However, ensure that from the list of printer options that you choose “sublimation printer”. After doing that, you can then click on the button to print the image.

5. Examine the Printed Picture

Immediately the printing is complete, examine the printed image for gaps or lines. If you find any, then you need to print another image until you print one without lines or gaps. If you find that the coloration of the image is too light, you shouldn’t worry about it because sublimation ink will display better when you apply the paper to the fabric through heat pressure.

6. Iron Press the Fabric

The next thing you should do is to iron press the fabric you will use. The lines and creases on the fabric must be ironed out to ensure that the image is not distorted on the fabric.

7. Perform Heat Press

After the step above, it is time to perform a heat press on the printed image on the fabric. Do this by placing butter paper under the fabric at the area where the image will be sublimated. This is necessary to prevent the dyes from sticking to the shirt’s other side.

Now, flip the page backward; then have it taped to the fabric. Get a second butter paper; place it on the printed page and have it taped as well. Get a hot iron to iron the image. As you continue doing this, the heat of the iron will cause the sublimation ink to melt from the paper onto the fabric.

8. Exercise Patience

The success of the entire process depends on your patience at this stage. Why is this so? You will need to iron the entire paper and fabric for 60 minutes; yes, you’ll be ironing for a whole hour. After that, you will have to wait for an additional 60 minutes before pressing the iron on the picture for 60 seconds.

After this period, remove the iron from the image and let the entire fabric and image cool down. This will enable the colors to settle before the image is peeled off. Once it gets cold, peel off the image and enjoy the design on your fabric.
