To fix your HP printer queue stuck in Windows 10 or Windows 8 for HP Designjet printers, do the following steps in the given order:

1. Confirm that the IP Address of your Printer in your Computer’s Windows Port Settings is Correct

You need to confirm that the IP address of your printer in your computer’s Windows port settings is indeed the IP address of your HP printer.

Note: You need to know the IP address of your HP printer for you to complete this step successfully. If you don’t know your printer’s IP address, print out a Network Configuration Report page from your printer and check the page for the IP address.

How to confirm that the Printer’s IP Address in your Computer’s Windows Port Setting is Correct

To confirm that the printer’s IP address in your computer’s Windows port setting is correct, do the following steps:

Step 1: On your computer, navigate to “Devices and Printers”.

Step 2: Right-click on your HP printer’s icon.

Step 3: Click on “Printer Properties”.

Step 4: Click on the tab labeled “Port”.

Step 5: Click on “Configure Port”.

Step 6: Check the field for “Printer Name or IP Address” and confirm that the IP address that is displayed is indeed that of your HP printer.

Step 7: If you discover the IP address to be incorrect, ensure that you correct it by typing the correct IP address in the field.

2. Delete the Job Files and then Restart Print Spooler

The moment you execute the print command, Windows create a print file for that job. In some cases, such files get corrupted and end up causing different kinds of issues. Therefore, to fix the HP printer stuck on queue issue, you have to manually delete these files, and then restart your computer’s print spooler as well as the printer itself and your computer.

Note: When you restart the print spooler or your computer, any print job that was sent to your computer from other printers not experiencing the HP printer queue issue will also be canceled. Therefore, before you carry out this step, ensure that all your print jobs have been completed. Alternatively, ensure that the status of all other printers connected to your computer is “idle”.

How to Delete the Job Files and then Restart Print Spooler

To delete the job files and then restart the print spooler, do the following steps:

Step 1: Turn your HP printer off by pressing the printer’s power button.

Step 2: Click on the “Search” icon on your computer’s taskbar.

Step 3: Type “run” in the search field.

Step 4: Click on the “Run” app from the search results.

Step 5: In the window for “Run”, type “services.msc”.

Step 6: Press the “Enter” key on your keyboard.

This action will open the “Services” menu.

Step 7: Right-click on “Print Spooler”.

Step 8: Click on “Stop”.

Step 9: Close the window.

Step 10: Navigate to C:\Windows\System32\Spool\PRINTERS via Windows Explorer.

Step 11: In the folder labeled “PRINTERS”, delete all the files you find.

Step 12: Restart your Windows computer.

Step 13: Turn your HP printer on by pressing the printer’s power button.

Step 14: Try to print again.

If you can print successfully, then the HP printer jobs stuck in queue problem has been resolved.

4. Other things you can do

If the above steps fail to resolve the HP printer stuck in queue in Windows 10 or Windows 8 issue, try the following things:

i. Confirm that your HP Printer isn’t Offline or Paused

If your HP printer is offline or paused, any print job you send from your computer will be stuck in the print queue. The jobs will remain in the queue until your HP printer’s status becomes active.

Therefore, you need to check the print queue window, click on the “Printer” tab, and then confirm that these options aren’t selected: “Pause Printing” and “Use Printer Offline”. If you discover that any of these options are selected, click on that option to remove the checkmark.

If returning your printer to online status doesn’t resolve the HP printer jobs stuck in queue issue, do the next task.

ii. Temporarily Disable the Firewall on your Computer

Sometimes, the installed firewall on your PC might interfere with your printer functions.

Therefore, if the HP print queue is not fixed, you need to temporarily, to do this, right-click on the firewall icon in the system tray on the taskbar, and then click on the option that allows you to disable the firewall.

Note: You need to be signed in as the administrator to carry out this action.

After you disable the firewall, print a document. If it fails to print, then it means that the firewall isn’t responsible for the HP printer queue issue. However, if the document prints, then you need to modify the setting of the firewall to enable the print spooler to gain access to your computer system.

iii. Use a Different Account to Log in

Restart your computer, and then log in using another Windows account. In the event that you can print from a different account, then it means certain print permissions were not granted to the previous account you tried to print from earlier.

When you discover this, you need to ensure that the initial account has the required permissions that will allow you to print.

If using a different account to log in fails to fix the HP printer jobs stuck in queue problem, do the final task below.

iv. Run System File Checker

To run System File Checker, do these:

Step 1: Click on the “Search” icon on your computer’s taskbar.

Step 2: Type “Command” in the search field.

Step 3: Click on “Command Prompts” from the search results”.

Step 4: Enter this: “SFC / scannow” in the command line.

Your computer will run a scan of the files on your computer.
