The blinking attention light is an indication that an error has occurred. To determine the error that occurred, you need to check the control panel display for an error message.

In most cases where an error code is displayed, turning off and then turning on your printer should fix the error.

When you see the low ink indicator blinking, it means that the ink in the cartridge is low. Although you can continue printing even while this HP printer warning light continues to blink; however, you need to change the cartridge once the print quality becomes unacceptable.

How to Replace the Cartridge in HP OfficeJet J4500 Series Printer HP J4500 Series Printer Warning Lights

To replace the cartridge in the HP Office J4500 series printer, follow the steps below:

Step 1: Turn on your HP printer.

Caution: You need to turn on your printer to enable you to remove the cartridge from your printer. If you try to take it out without turning off your printer, the cartridge will not be released. As such, forcefully pulling out the cartridge from your printer can damage the printer.

Step 2: Open your printer’s front access door.

This action will cause the carriage within your printer to move to the extreme right side.

Step 3: Wait for your printer to become silent and idle.

Step 4: Slightly press down the cartridge to free it from its slot.

If you are replacing the black, gray photo, or photo cartridge, the cartridge on the right is what you need to take out.

If you are replacing the tri-color cartridge, the cartridge on the left is what you need to take out.

Step 5: Pull out the cartridge from its slot.

Step 6: If you want to replace the black cartridge with the gray photo or photo ink cartridge, ensure that you keep the black cartridge safely in a cartridge protector. If you don’t have a cartridge protector, you can use an airtight container.

Step 7: Hold the new cartridge by its sides and remove it from the package.

Step 8: Pull the pink pull tab to remove the protective plastic tape.

Caution: Ensure that you don’t touch the ink nozzles or copper-colored contacts. If you touch these parts, it could lead to poor electrical connections, ink failure, and clogs.

Also, do not drop the cartridge as such action can lead to either temporary printing issues or irreversible damage to the cartridge.

Step 9: Hold the cartridge by the sides and ensure that the HP logo is on top and facing up.

Step 10: Install the new cartridge into the empty slot where you took out the old cartridge from.

If you are installing the black, gray photo, or photo cartridge, install it into the slot on the right.

If you are installing the tri-color cartridge, install it into the slot on the right.

Step 11: Push the cartridge into the slot and ensure that it is firmly in place.

Step 12: Close your printer’s front access door.

If the cartridge you installed is a new one, your printer will print a cartridge alignment page.

Step 13: When you see the prompt, load regular white paper into your printer’s input tray.

Step 14: Load the alignment page on the scanner glass with the print side facing down.

Ensure that you load it according to the guide on the scanner glass.

Step 15: Press your printer’s “OK” button.
