1. Install HP Smart App on your Android or iOS Phone

Follow the steps below to install HP Smart App on your iOS or Android phone:

Step 1: Place your HP printer close to your router or network access point device if you want to set up a Wi-Fi connection.

Step 2: Ensure that there is paper in your printer’s main tray.

Step 3: Turn on your HP printer.

Step 4: Go to 123.hp.com to download the HP Smart app.

Note: Ensure that you disconnect any VPN (Virtual Private Network) connection before you start the download.

Step 5: Now, you need to create an HP account and then sign in if this is your first time setting up the HP Smart app. If you already have an account, you just have to sign in.

This is important as it will give you access to your printer’s full functions. Hence, you won’t have such access if you don’t sign in.

Step 6: Enable the Bluetooth to enable the HP Smart App to detect your HP printer when you start the setup.

Step 7: Open the HP Smart app to begin the setup.

If your HP printer is detected, then follow the on-screen instructions to finish setting up the app.

Step 1: Choose any of the scan tiles below from the Home Screen of the HP Smart app.

  • Printer Scan: Put the document or photo you want to scan on the scanner glass of your HP printer. Alternatively, if your printer has an ADF (Automatic Document Feeder), then you can place the document or photo into the ADF.

If you use an android phone, tap on the icon for “Settings” to choose input source, color, and resolution. After that, tap “Close”.

If you use an iOS phone, tap on the dropdown arrow to choose paper size, color, and quality. Once you are done making your selection, tap “Done”.

  • Camera Scan: This tile allows you to use your phone’s camera to capture any document or photo. You can then edit, share or print the document or photo.

Step 2: Tap on the icon for “Preferences” to select off or on for enhancement features. After that, tap “Done”.

Step 3: Choose one of the preset options. After that tap on “Scan” to begin the scan; alternatively, you can tap on the visible white circle.

Step 4: If a screen for “Detect Edges” or “Adjust Boundaries” is displayed, simply tap “Auto” to automatically amend the boundaries. Alternatively, you can do the adjustment manually. Simply tap and then change the positions of the blue points. Once you are done with the adjustments, click on “Next”.

Step 5: In the window for “Preview”, choose from the options below:

  • Click “+ Add”, to add one more page.

  • Click on the icon for “Menu” to edit, delete, or replace scanned items.
  • To rotate an item, click on the icon for “Rotate”.
  • Select the file type. Choose “Basic PDF” if you want the scans saved as just one file or you could choose “Image” if you want the scans saved separately.

Step 6: In the window for “Edit”, crop, change the color, rotate, or add text and filter to enhance and adjust the file. After that, tap “Done”.

Step 7: Choose an option that will determine what will be done with the scanned file. You could choose from the following options:

  • Print: This option allows you to send the scanned file to your HP printer for printing.
  • Save: With this option, you simply save the file in the default folder (scanned documents go to the windows documents folder while scanned photos go to the picture library). You can choose a folder of your choice if you don’t want to use the default folders.
  • Share: If you select this, you can send the scanned file as an email, or you can share it on social media such as Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, etc. You can even share it on your cloud storage such as OneDrive or Box. There are other apps you can share with from the Microsoft or Apple Store as well.
