To set the control panel access lock on the HP LaserJet P3010, P3015, P4010, and P4510 printers, do the following steps:

Step 1: Ensure that the computer connected to your printer has an internet connection.

Step 2: Open any web browser on your computer.

Step 3: Type the IP address of your printer in the address bar.

Step 4: Press your keyboard’s “Enter” key.

Your printer’s Embedded Web Server (EWS) will open.

Step 5: Click the tab labeled “Settings.”

Step 6: Click on the “Security” option.

Step 7: Click on the button labeled “Device Security Settings.”

Step 8: Check the “Control Panel Access Lock” area, and choose the security level you want.

Below are the security levels you can choose from:

i. Minimum Menu Lock

This level locks the following menus:

  • Retrieve Job: You need a PIN to access this menu.
  • System Setup: Locked.
  • I/O: Locked.
  • Resets: Locked.

ii. Moderate Menu Lock

This level locks the following menus:

  • Retrieve Job: You need a PIN to access this menu.
  • Configure Device: Locked including all the submenus.
  • Diagnostics: Locked.

iii. Intermediate Menu Lock

This level locks the following menus:

  • Retrieve Job: You need a PIN to access this menu.
  • Paper Handling: Locked.

  • Diagnostics: Locked.

iv. Maximum Menu Lock

This level locks the following menus:

  • Retrieve Job: You need a PIN to access this menu.
  • Information: Locked.
  • Paper Handling: Locked.
  • Configure Device: Locked including all the submenus.
  • Diagnostics: Locked.

Step 9: After choosing the security level, click on the button labeled “Apply.”

To set the control panel access lock on the HP LaserJet Enterprise 600 printer M602 Series, do the following steps:

How to Set Control Panel Access Lock on HP LaserJet Pro MFP M479, M454, MFP M428 – M29, M404 – M405 Printers

To set the control panel access lock on the HP LaserJet Pro MFP M479, M454, MFP M428 – M29, and M404 – M405 printers, do the following tasks:

1. Open your HP Printer Embedded Web Server (EWS) – Set Control Panel Access Lock

To open your HP printer Embedded Web Server (EWS), do the following steps:

Note: Your web browser must have JavaScript enabled if you want to perform this feature setup in your HP printer Embedded Web Server.

Step 1: Check the printer’s control panel for the IP address of your HP printer.

Touchscreen Control Panel Printers

i. Go to the control panel home screen.

ii. Touch the Ethernet icon or Wireless icon.

This action will display the IP address or hostname of your HP printer.

2-Line LCD Control Panel Printers

i. Press OK on your printer’s control panel.

This action will display the printer’s home screen.

ii. With the aid of the navigation arrow and OK buttons, navigate and open the menus below:

  • Setup
  • Network Setup
  • General Settings

iii. Go to the “General Settings” menu, and choose the “Show the IP Address” option. After that, select “Yes.”

This action will display the IP address or hostname of your HP printer.

Step 2: Open the Embedded Web Server.

i. Ensure that the computer connected to your printer has an internet connection.

ii. Open any web browser on your computer.

iii. Type the IP address of your printer in the address bar.

iv. Press your keyboard’s “Enter” key.

Your printer’s Embedded Web Server (EWS) will open.

Note: If the browser displays a message that the EWS website is unsafe, proceed to the website by selecting the appropriate option. Disregard the warning message as the EWS won’t harm your computer.

2. Enable Control Panel Lock Setting – Set Control Panel Access Lock

To enable the control panel lock setting, do the following steps:

Step 1: Click the tab labeled “Settings.”

This tab is located at the top navigation tab.

Step 2: Click on the “Security” menu.

This menu is located at the left navigation pane.

Step 3: Click on the “Administrator Settings” menu.

Step 4: Click on the Plus (+) icon under the section for “Printer Features” to show more details under the “Printer Settings” option.

Step 5: Click on the check box for “Control Panel Lock.”

This action will enable the lock setting.

Note: Clicking on the check box again will disable the feature.

Step 6: Save your setting by clicking the button labeled “Apply.”
