Note: Tray 2 is not designed for special print media (labels, transparencies, and envelopes). Therefore, you should only load such print media in tray 1. For special papers like the letterhead, ensure that the print side is facing down while the top edge goes into the printer first.

Note: Do not load more than 125 paper sheets into tray 2. Also, don’t fan the print media before placing it in the tray.

Step 6: Ensure that the paper stack is flat at all corners when in tray 2. Also, ensure that the stack is not higher than the height tabs on the tray’s length guide.

Step 7: Push the metal media-lift plate downwards.

This action will cause the plate to be locked securely in its place.

Step 8: Slide tray 2 into your printer.

Note: If you choose a longer size, the tray’s back area will shoot out at the printer’s rear area.

How to Load Tray 3 of HP Color LaserJet 2550 Printers with Print Media – HP 2550l Printer Warning Lights

Note: Tray 3 is not designed for special print media (labels, transparencies, and envelopes). Therefore, you should only load such print media in tray 1. If you try to print special print media from tray 2, it could lead to jams. You can only print paper such as letter-size and A4-size paper from tray 3. It also supports pre-punched and average-weight letterhead paper.

To load tray 3 of HP Color LaserJet 2550 printers with print media, do the following steps:

Step 1: Pull tray 3 out of your printer.

Step 2: If there is paper loaded in the tray, remove them.

If you are loading A4-size paper, push down the rear stop.

Step 1: Open your printer’s tray 2 or tray 3.

This action should reveal the jammed print media.

Step 2: Do any of the actions below depending on the situation:

Step 3: If you are unable to pull out the print media from the tray or remove it from the inside area of your printer, grasp the print media with both hands from the outside area of your printer and then pull it out carefully and slowly.

This action will cause the metal paper lift plate to be locked securely in its place.

To clear the jam from the output areas of HP Color LaserJet 2550 printers, do the following steps:

Note: When a jam occurs in output areas, it could cause loose toner to spill on the page. Also, if toner spills on your hands or clothes, wash it off with cold water instead of hot water. Hot water is known to set toner into clothes.

Step 1: Do any of the actions below depending on the situation:

• If you cannot fully see the jammed print media from the top of your printer’s output bin, skip to step 2.
• If you can fully see the jammed print media from the top of your printer’s output bin, carefully pull it out of your printer. After doing that, skip to the final step.

Step 2: Open your printer’s rear output door.

Step 3: If you can see the print media’s leading edge from your printer’s rear opening, free the fuser rollers by pushing down the green levers (there are two of them).

Step 4: Carefully pull out the print media.

Step 5: Close your printer’s rear output door.

Step 6: If the jammed print media is deep inside your printer and cannot be removed using the steps above, turn off your HP printer.

Step 7: Remove the power cord from your printer.

Step 8: Rotate the fuser locks so that they are in the unlocked position.

Step 9: Remove the fuser from your printer by grasping the handles and then pulling it out.

Step 10: Grab the jammed print media with both hands, and then slowly and carefully pull it from your printer.

If the light is still blinking, then you need to service your HP printer.

Blinking Go Light on HP Color LaserJet 2550 Printers – HP 2550l Printer Warning Lights

This indicates an interaction state and it occurs when your printer’s top cover is opened and then closed. It can also occur when you press the “Rotate Carousel” button.

While this is not a serious issue since your printer will automatically return to the ready state; however, you can return your printer to the ready state by pressing the “Go” button.

If you press the “Rotate Carousel” button when your printer is in this interaction state, a different cartridge will move to the top position in your printer.

When this occurs, your printer will stop printing and will display any of the following messages:

This happens when the tray that has been selected does not have print media in it.

This indicates that an accessory error has occurred with an installed DIMM or the HP Jetdirect print server. When this happens, your printer will stop printing and nothing changes when you print any button on the printer.

To resolve this problem, hold down the “Go” button. This action will display a secondary light pattern. In most cases, when you press down the “Go” button, the attention, ready, and go lights will stop blinking and only the go light will be turned on. After pressing the “Go” button, only the ready light remains on. If you check the event log, you will see this error message: 50005. For both cases, this is an indication of a scanner error.

Step 1: Press the power button to turn off your HP printer.

Step 2: Remove the interface cover.

i. Remove the fuser

• Remove the power cord from your printer.
• Rotate the two fuser locks upward so that they are in the unlocked position.
• Remove the fuser from your printer by grasping the handles and then pulling it out.

Warning: The fuser’s internal surface parts are usually very hot; therefore, avoid touching those parts to prevent burns to your hands.

ii. Locate the tab at the interface cover’s top area and the other tab at the back of the cover.

iii. Release these tabs.

iv. To remove the interface cover, rotate the upper part outwards from your printer.

Step 3: Remove the back cover.

i. Remove the right-side cover and the left-side cover if you haven’t done so.

Follow the instructions in step 1 above to do this.

iii. With the aid of a flathead screwdriver, loosen the two internal tabs that hold the back cover in place.

iv. To remove the back cover, rotate the upper part outwards from your printer, and then downwards. This motion will free the internal tabs that are under the back cover.

Step 4: Remove the top cover.

i. Remove the right-side cover and the left-side cover if you haven’t done so.

Follow the instructions in step 1 above to do this.

ii. Remove the interface cover if you haven’t done so.

Follow the instructions in step 2 above to do this.

iii. Remove the back cover if you haven’t done so.

Follow the instructions in step 3 above to do this.

iv. Open your printer’s top door.

v. Release the gear by pressing the small tab that is on the gear.

vi. Take out the gear to free the top-door rack.

Note: Ensure that you reinsert the gear once the top door rack is released.

vii. Locate the three screws on the top cover and remove them.

viii. Remove the top cover by lifting it off your printer.

step 5: Remove the two cable connectors.

Step 6: Remove the cables from their holders.

Step 7: Remove the flat flexible cable from the laser/scanner’s cable socket.

Step 8: Rotate the bottom part of the top output bin cover towards your printer’s front area before lifting it away from your printer.

Step 9: Locate and then remove the four screws.

Step 10: Remove the cables from the harness at the back of the laser/scanner.

Step 11: Plug the cables back into the harness at the back of the laser/scanner and ensure that they are well-secured.

Step 12: Reinsert and tighten the four screws.

Step 13: Reattach the bottom part of the top output bin cover to your printer.

Step 14: Reinsert the flat flexible cable into the laser/scanner’s cable socket and ensure that it is well-secured.

Step 15: Reinsert the cables into their holders and ensure that they are well-secured.

Step 16: Reconnect the two cable connectors.

Step 17: Reattach the top cover to your printer.

Step 18: Fasten the three screws on the top cover.

Step 19: Remove and then reinsert and secure the gear to fasten the top door rack.

Step 20: Close your printer’s top door.

Step 21: Reattach the back cover to your printer.

Step 22: Tighten the internal tabs with the aid of a flathead screwdriver to hold the back cover in place.

Step 23: Reattach the interface cover to your printer.

Step 24: Fasten the tabs at the top area and the back of the interface cover.

Step 25: Reinsert the fuser into your printer carefully and slowly.

Step 26: Rotate the fuser locks to their locked position.

Step 27: Plug the power cord into your printer.

Step 28: Reattach the left-side cover to your printer.

Step 29: Fasten the screw to the left-side cover’s lower edge.

Step 30: Reattach the right-side cover to your printer.

Step 31: Fasten the screw to the right-side cover’s lower edge.

After doing the above steps, check if the error is resolved.

If the error persists, do the next task.

3. Replace the Laser/Scanner – HP 2550l Printer Warning Lights

To replace the laser/scanner, do the following steps:

Step 1: Repeat steps 1 – 10 we shared under the “Reseat the Printer’s Laser/Scanner Cable” section above.

Step 2: Remove the laser/scanner assembly lifting it upwards from your printer.

Step 3: Get the replacement laser/scanner assembly.

Step 4: Insert the replacement laser/scanner assembly into your printer.

Step 5: Repeat steps 13 – 31 we shared under the “Reseat the Printer’s Laser/Scanner Cable” section above.

After doing the above steps, check if the error is resolved.

If the error persists, then you need to service your HP printer.

2. Blinking Attention Light – HP 2550l Printer Warning Lights

After pressing the “Go” button, the attention light starts blinking. If you check the event log, you will see this error message: 50006. For both cases, this is an indication of a fan motor error.

Therefore, to fix this error, do the following steps:

Step 1: Turn off your printer.

Step 2: Check and confirm that the cable connections to the fan are well-connected.

Step 3: Turn on your HP printer.

After doing the above steps, check if the error is resolved.

If the error persists, then you need to replace the printer’s fan.

How to Replace the Fan on HP Color LaserJet 2500 Printers – HP 2550l Printer Warning Lights

To replace the fan on HP Color LaserJet 2500 printers, do the following steps:

Step 1: Remove the right and left side covers.

i. Remove the screw from the right-side cover’s lower edge.

ii. Grasp the right-side cover by its handle as well as by the top area.

iii. Gently pull out the right-side cover while rotating it away from your printer and then lift it upwards.

iv. Remove the screw from the left-side cover’s lower edge.

v. Grasp the left-side cover by its handle as well as by the top area.

vi. Gently pull out the left-side cover while rotating it away from your printer and then lift it upwards.

Step 2: Remove the interface cover.

i. Remove the fuser

• Remove the power cord from your printer.

iii. With the aid of a flathead screwdriver, loosen the two internal tabs that hold the back cover in place.

iv. To remove the back cover, rotate the upper part outwards from your printer, and then downwards. This motion will free the internal tabs that are under the back cover.

Step 4: Remove the top cover.

i. Remove the right-side cover and the left-side cover if you haven’t done so.

Follow the instructions in step 1 above to do this.

ii. Remove the interface cover if you haven’t done so.

Follow the instructions in step 2 above to do this.

iii. Remove the back cover if you haven’t done so.

Follow the instructions in step 3 above to do this.

iv. Open your printer’s top door.

v. Release the gear by pressing the small tab that is on the gear.

vi. Take out the gear to free the top-door rack.

Note: Ensure that you reinsert the gear once the top door rack is released.

vii. Locate the three screws on the top cover and remove them.

viii. Remove the top cover by lifting it off your printer.

Step 5: Remove one of the connectors.

Step 6: Release the two tabs.

Step 7: Lift the air duct upwards.

This action will free the tabs (two of them) that are at the air duct’s top area.

Step 8: Remove the air duct from your printer by lifting it up and away.

Step 9: Release the air duct tabs (they are on the sides) facing the printer.

Step 10: Lift out the fan from the air duct.

Step 11: Get the replacement fan.

Step 12: Insert the replacement fan into the air duct.

Step 13: Reinsert the air duct into your printer.

Step 14: Fasten the two release tabs to secure the air duct in place.

Step 15: Reconnect the connector you removed earlier.

Step 16: Reattach the top cover to your printer.

Step 17: Fasten the three screws on the top cover.

Step 18: Remove and then reinsert and secure the gear to fasten the top door rack.

Step 19: Close your printer’s top door.

Step 20: Reattach the back cover to your printer.

Step 21: Tighten the internal tabs with the aid of a flathead screwdriver to hold the back cover in place.

Step 22: Reattach the interface cover to your printer.

Step 23: Fasten the tabs at the top area and the back of the interface cover.

Step 24: Reinsert the fuser into your printer carefully and slowly.

Step 25: Rotate the fuser locks to their locked position.

Step 26: Plug the power cord into your printer.

Step 27: Reattach the left-side cover to your printer.

Step 27: Fasten the screw to the left-side cover’s lower edge.

Step 29: Reattach the right-side cover to your printer.

Step 30: Fasten the screw to the right-side cover’s lower edge.

After doing the above steps, check if the error is resolved.

i. Remove the screw from the right-side cover’s lower edge.

iii. Gently pull out the right-side cover while rotating it away from your printer and then lift it upwards.

Step 2: Remove the interface cover.

i. Remove the fuser

• Remove the power cord from your printer.
• Rotate the two fuser locks upward so that they are in the unlocked position.
• Remove the fuser from your printer by grasping the handles and then pulling it out.

Warning: The fuser’s internal surface parts are usually very hot; therefore, avoid touching those parts to prevent burns to your hands.

ii. Locate the tab at the interface cover’s top area and the other tab at the back of the cover.

iii. Release these tabs.

iv. To remove the interface cover, rotate the upper part outwards from your printer.

Step 3: Remove the formatter cage.

i. Unplug the connector by pinching the tab on the cable connector with the aid of a flathead screwdriver.

ii. Check the middle of the formatter cage, and remove the two screws in that area.

iii. Unplug the flat flexible cable.

iv. Check the right side of the formatter cage, and remove the two screws in that area.

v. Remove the formatter cage from the two hooks holding it in place by rotating the cage upward.

Step 4: Locate and then remove the five screws that hold the metal plate that is attached to the formatter cage’s back.

Step 5: Take away the metal plate.

Step 6: Clear the tabs on the side of the plate by lifting the plate’s front edge in an upward motion.  

Step 7: Lift and remove the plate from the formatter cage.

Step 8: Unplug the connector.

Step 9: Remove the formatter from the formatter cage.

Step 10: Get the replacement formatter.

Step 11: Insert the replacement formatter into the formatter cage.

Step 12: Plug the connector back in.

Step 13: Reinsert the plate into the formatter cage and ensure that it is secured in its place.

Step 14: Fasten the five screws that hold the metal plate that is attached to the formatter cage’s back.

Step 15: Return the two hooks holding the formatter cage in place to their original position.

Step 16: Fasten the two screws into place at the right side of the formatter cage.

Step 17: Plug the flat flexible cable back in.

Step 18: Fasten the two screws into place in the middle of the formatter cage.

Step 19: Plug the connector back in.

Step 20: Reattach the interface cover to your printer.

Step 21: Fasten the tabs at the top area and the back of the interface cover.

Step 22: Reinsert the fuser into your printer carefully and slowly.

Step 23: Rotate the fuser locks to their locked position.

Step 24: Plug the power cord into your printer.

Step 25: Reattach the right-side cover to your printer.

Step 26: Fasten the screw to the right-side cover’s lower edge.

After replacing the formatter, check if the problem is resolved.

If the problem persists, do the next task.

4. Replace the DC Controller – HP 2550l Printer Warning Lights

To replace the dc controller, do the following steps:

Step 1: Repeat steps 1 – 3 that we shared under the “Replace the Formatter” section of this article.

Step 2: Remove the flat, flexible cable.

Step 3: Free the cables from the two cable holders.

Step 4: Remove the cable connector by pressing and then releasing the connector’s side tab.

Step 5: Remove the two cable connectors by releasing the clip on each of the connectors.

Step 6: Remove the remaining twenty-four cable connectors.

Step 7: Check and then remove the two screws at the dc controller’s bottom area.

Step 8: Check and then remove the two screws at the dc controller’s top area.

Step 9: Remove the dc controller from your printer by lifting it up and away.

Step 10: Get the replacement dc controller.

Step 11: Insert the replacement dc controller into your printer.

Step 12: Fasten the two screws to the dc controller’s top area. 

Step 13: Fasten the two screws to the dc controller’s top area. 

Step 14: Reconnect the twenty-four cable connectors.

Step 15: Reconnect the two cable connectors.

Step 16: Reconnect the cable connector.

Step 17: Return the cables to the cable holders.

Step 18: Reconnect the flat, flexible cable.

Step 19: Return the two hooks holding the formatter cage in place to their original position.

Step 20: Fasten the two screws into place at the right side of the formatter cage.

Step 21: Plug the flat flexible cable back in.

Step 22: Fasten the two screws into place in the middle of the formatter cage.

Step 23: Plug the connector back in.

Step 24: Reattach the interface cover to your printer.

Step 25: Fasten the tabs at the top area and the back of the interface cover.

Step 26: Reinsert the fuser into your printer carefully and slowly.

Step 27: Rotate the fuser locks to their locked position.

Step 28: Plug the power cord into your printer.

Step 29: Reattach the right-side cover to your printer.

Step 30: Fasten the screw to the right-side cover’s lower edge.

After replacing the dc controller, check if the problem is resolved.

If the problem persists, do the next task.

5. Replace the Laser/Scanner – HP 2550l Printer Warning Lights

To replace the laser/scanner, do the steps we shared under the “Replace the Laser/Scanner” section of this article.

After replacing the laser/scanner, check if the problem is resolved.

If the problem persists, then you need to service your HP printer.

4. Turned on Ready and Go Lights – HP 2550l Printer Warning Lights

After pressing the “Go” button, the ready and go lights turn on. If you check the event log, you will see any of these error messages: 50008, 50009, 50010, or 50015.

This HP printer warning light pattern and the error message indicate any of the following issues:

i. Slow fuser error.

ii. Low fuser-temperature error.

iii. High fuser-temperature error.

iv. Fuser drive-circuit error.

Therefore, to fix this problem, do the following tasks:

This HP printer warning light pattern and the error message indicate any of the following issues:

i. Fuser motor error.

ii. Main motor error.

iii. Developer error.

Therefore, to fix this problem, simply turn off and then turn on your printer. If that doesn’t fix the error, then you need to replace the motor that is responsible for the error.

To determine the motor responsible for the error, check the event log error message:

• If you see 50019, then the fuser motor is responsible for the error.
• If you see 50023, then the developer motor is responsible for the error.
• If you see 50024, then the main motor is responsible for the error.

How to Replace the Fuser Motor on HP Color LaserJet 2550 Printers – HP 2550l Printer Warning Lights

To replace the fuser motor on HP Color LaserJet 2550 printers, do the following steps:

Step 1: Remove the right-side cover of your printer.

i. Remove the screw from the right-side cover’s lower edge.

ii. Grasp the right-side cover by its handle as well as by the top area.

iii. Gently pull out the right-side cover while rotating it away from your printer and then lift it upwards.

Step 2: Remove the interface cover of your printer.

i. Remove the fuser

• Remove the power cord from your printer.
• Rotate the two fuser locks upward so that they are in the unlocked position.
• Remove the fuser from your printer by grasping the handles and then pulling it out.

Warning: The fuser’s internal surface parts are usually very hot; therefore, avoid touching those parts to prevent burns to your hands.

ii. Locate the tab at the interface cover’s top area and the other tab at the back of the cover.

iii. Release these tabs.

iv. To remove the interface cover, rotate the upper part outwards from your printer.

Step 3: Remove the formatter cage.

i. Unplug the connector by pinching the tab on the cable connector with the aid of a flathead screwdriver.

ii. Check the middle of the formatter cage, and remove the two screws in that area.

iii. Unplug the flat flexible cable.

iv. Check the right side of the formatter cage, and remove the two screws in that area.

v. Remove the formatter cage from the two hooks holding it in place by rotating the cage upward.

Step 4: Unplug the connector connected to the fuser motor.  

Step 5: Remove the four screws holding the fuser motor.

Step 6: Take out the fuser motor from your printer.

Step 7: Get the replacement fuser motor.

Step 8: Insert the replacement fuser motor into your printer.

Step 9: Tighten the four screws that hold the fuser motor in place.

Step 10: Plug in the connector to the fuser motor.

Step 11: Return the two hooks holding the formatter cage in place to their original position.

Step 12: Fasten the two screws into place at the right side of the formatter cage.

Step 13: Plug the flat flexible cable back in.

Step 14: Fasten the two screws into place in the middle of the formatter cage.

Step 15: Plug the connector back in.

Step 16: Reattach the interface cover to your printer.

Step 17: Fasten the tabs at the top area and the back of the interface cover.

Step 18: Reinsert the fuser into your printer carefully and slowly.

Step 19: Rotate the fuser locks to their locked position.

Step 20: Plug the power cord into your printer.

Step 21: Reattach the right-side cover to your printer.

Step 22: Fasten the screw to the right-side cover’s lower edge.

How to Replace the Developer Motor on HP Color LaserJet 2550 Printers – HP 2550l Printer Warning Lights

To replace the developer motor on HP Color LaserJet 2550 printers, do the following steps:

Note: The developer motor and the main motor are parts of the rotary-drive assembly. Therefore, if you want to replace the developer motor, it means you have to replace the rotary-drive assembly.

Step 1: Remove the right-side and left-side covers of your printer.

i. Remove the screw from the right-side cover’s lower edge.

ii. Grasp the right-side cover by its handle as well as by the top area.

iii. Gently pull out the right-side cover while rotating it away from your printer and then lift it upwards.

iv. Remove the screw from the left-side cover’s lower edge.

v. Grasp the left-side cover by its handle as well as by the top area.

vi. Gently pull out the left-side cover while rotating it away from your printer and then lift it upwards.

Step 2: Remove the interface cover of your printer.

i. Remove the fuser

• Remove the power cord from your printer.
• Rotate the two fuser locks upward so that they are in the unlocked position.
• Remove the fuser from your printer by grasping the handles and then pulling it out.

Warning: The fuser’s internal surface parts are usually very hot; therefore, avoid touching those parts to prevent burns to your hands.

ii. Locate the tab at the interface cover’s top area and the other tab at the back of the cover.

iii. Release these tabs.

iv. To remove the interface cover, rotate the upper part outwards from your printer.

Step 3: Remove the formatter cage.

i. Unplug the connector by pinching the tab on the cable connector with the aid of a flathead screwdriver.

ii. Check the middle of the formatter cage, and remove the two screws in that area.

iii. Unplug the flat flexible cable.

iv. Check the right side of the formatter cage, and remove the two screws in that area.

v. Remove the formatter cage from the two hooks holding it in place by rotating the cage upward.

Step 4: Remove the back cover of your printer.

i. Remove the right-side cover and the left-side cover if you haven’t done so.

Follow the instructions in step 1 above to do this.

iii. With the aid of a flathead screwdriver, loosen the two internal tabs that hold the back cover in place.

iv. To remove the back cover, rotate the upper part outwards from your printer, and then downwards. This motion will free the internal tabs that are under the back cover.

Step 5: Remove the top cover of your printer.

i. Remove the right-side cover and the left-side cover if you haven’t done so.

Follow the instructions in step 1 above to do this.

ii. Remove the interface cover if you haven’t done so.

Follow the instructions in step 2 above to do this.

iii. Remove the back cover if you haven’t done so.

Follow the instructions in step 4 above to do this.

iv. Open your printer’s top door.

v. Release the gear by pressing the small tab that is on the gear.

vi. Take out the gear to free the top-door rack.

Note: Ensure that you reinsert the gear once the top door rack is released.

vii. Locate the three screws on the top cover and remove them.

viii. Remove the top cover by lifting it off your printer.

Step 6: Unplug the three connectors from the dc controller.

Step 7: Remove the flat laser/scanner cable from your laser/scanner.

Step 8: Remove the screw that holds the motor in place.

Step 9: Remove the top screw that fastens the rotary-drive assembly to your printer’s chassis.

Step 10: Check the top of your printer, and then remove the remaining three screws that fasten the rotary-drive assembly to your printer’s chassis.

Step 11: Take out the rotary-drive assembly from your printer.

Step 12: Get the replacement rotary-drive assembly.

Step 13: Insert the replacement rotary-drive assembly into your printer.

Step 14: Secure the rotary-drive assembly to your printer’s chassis by fastening the three screws at the top of the printer.

Step 15: Tighten the top screw to secure the rotary-drive assembly to your printer’s chassis.

Step 16: Tighten the screw to hold the motor in place.

Step 17: Reconnect the flat laser/scanner cable to your laser/scanner.

Step 18: Reconnect the three connectors to the dc controller.

Step 19: Reattach the top cover to your printer.

Step 20: Fasten the three screws on the top cover.

Step 21: Remove and then reinsert and secure the gear to fasten the top door rack.

Step 22: Close your printer’s top door.

Step 23: Reattach the back cover to your printer.

Step 24: Tighten the internal tabs with the aid of a flathead screwdriver to hold the back cover in place.

Step 25: Return the two hooks holding the formatter cage in place to their original position.

Step 26: Fasten the two screws into place at the right side of the formatter cage.

Step 27: Plug the flat flexible cable back in.

Step 28: Fasten the two screws into place in the middle of the formatter cage.

Step 29: Plug the connector back in.

Step 30: Reattach the interface cover to your printer.

Step 31: Fasten the tabs at the top area and the back of the interface cover.

Step 32: Reinsert the fuser into your printer carefully and slowly.

Step 33: Rotate the fuser locks to their locked position.

Step 34: Plug the power cord into your printer.

Step 35: Reattach the left-side cover to your printer.

Step 36: Fasten the screw to the left-side cover’s lower edge.

Step 37: Reattach the right-side cover to your printer.

Step 38: Fasten the screw to the right-side cover’s lower edge.

If replacing the responsible monitor doesn’t resolve the problem, then you need to service your HP printer.

6. Blinking Ready Light – HP 2550l Printer Warning Lights

After pressing the “Go” button, the ready light starts blinking. If you check the event log, you will see any of these error messages: 50020 or 50031.

This HP printer warning light pattern and the error message indicate any of the following issues:

i. Faulty top-of-page sensor.

ii. Top-of-page sensor error.

Therefore, to fix this problem, do the following tasks:

1. Clean the Top-of-Page Sensor – HP 2550l Printer Warning Lights

To clean the top-of-page sensor, do the following steps:

Step 1: Remove the right-side and left-side covers.

i. Remove the screw from the right-side cover’s lower edge.

ii. Grasp the right-side cover by its handle as well as by the top area.

iii. Gently pull out the right-side cover while rotating it away from your printer and then lift it upwards.

iv. Remove the screw from the left-side cover’s lower edge.

v. Grasp the left-side cover by its handle as well as by the top area.

vi. Gently pull out the left-side cover while rotating it away from your printer and then lift it upwards.

Step 2: Remove the front cover.

i. Release the two internal tabs at both sides of your printer with the aid of a flathead screwdriver.

ii. Release the four internal tabs that are under the cover by rotating the cover in an upward motion.

Step 3: Release the sensor cover by pressing the tab on it.

Step 4: Lift the sensor cover and remove it from your printer.

Step 5: Unplug the connector next to the density sensor.

Step 6: Completely loosen the two screws holding the density sensor in place.

Step 7: Take out the density sensor from your printer.

Step 8: Unplug the connector on the top-of-page sensor.

Step 9: Completely loosen the screw holding the top-of-page sensor in place.

Step 10: Take out the top-of-page sensor from your printer.

Step 11: Get a lint-free fabric and gently wipe clean the top-of-page sensor.

Note: Do not use any type of liquid to clean the top-of-page sensor as this can damage the sensor.

Step 12: Reinsert the top-of-page sensor into your printer.

Step 13: Tighten the screw that holds the top-of-page sensor in place.

Step 14: Reconnect the connector on the top-of-page sensor.

Step 15: Reinsert the density sensor into your printer.

Step 16: Tighten the two screws holding the density sensor in place.

Step 17: Reconnect the connector next to the density sensor.

Step 18: Reinsert the sensor cover into your printer.

Step 19: Press down on the tab to secure the sensor cover in place.

Step 20: Reattach the front cover to your printer.

Step 21: Fasten the four internal tabs that are under the front cover by rotating the cover in a downward motion.

Step 22: Tighten the two internal tabs at both sides of your printer with the aid of a flathead screwdriver.

Step 23: Reattach the left-side cover to your printer.

Step 24: Fasten the screw to the left-side cover’s lower edge.

Step 25: Reattach the right-side cover to your printer.

Step 26: Fasten the screw to the right-side cover’s lower edge.

Check if the problem is resolved after cleaning the top-of-page sensor.

If the problem persists, do the next task.

2. Replace the Imaging Drum – HP 2550l Printer Warning Lights

To replace the imaging drum, follow the steps we shared under the “How to Replace the Imaging Drum in HP Color LaserJet 2550 Printers” section of this article.

After replacing the imaging drum, check if the problem is resolved.

If the problem persists, do the next task.

3. Replace the Top-of-Page Sensor – HP 2550l Printer Warning Lights

To replace the top-of-page sensor, do the following steps:

Step 1: Repeat steps 1 – 10 we shared under the “Clean the Top-of-Page Sensor” section of this article.

After doing those steps, continue with the steps below.

Step 2: Get a replacement top-of-page sensor that is compatible with your printer.

Step 3: Reinsert the replacement of top-of-page sensor into your printer.

Step 4: Tighten the screw that holds the top-of-page sensor in place.

Step 5: Reconnect the connector on the top-of-page sensor.

Step 6: Reinsert the density sensor into your printer.

Step 7: Tighten the two screws holding the density sensor in place.

Step 8: Reconnect the connector next to the density sensor.

Step 9: Reinsert the sensor cover into your printer.

Step 10: Press down on the tab to secure the sensor cover in place.

Step 11: Reattach the front cover to your printer.

Step 12: Fasten the four internal tabs that are under the front cover by rotating the cover in a downward motion.

Step 13: Tighten the two internal tabs at both sides of your printer with the aid of a flathead screwdriver.

Step 14: Reattach the left-side cover to your printer.

Step 15: Fasten the screw to the left-side cover’s lower edge.

Step 16: Reattach the right-side cover to your printer.

Step 17: Fasten the screw to the right-side cover’s lower edge.

After replacing the top-of-page sensor, check if the problem is resolved.

If the problem persists, then you need to service your HP printer. 

7. Turned-on Attention and Go Lights – HP 2550l Printer Warning Lights

After pressing the “Go” button, the attention and go lights turn on. If you check the event log, you will see this error message: 50022. This occurrence is an indication of a T2 clutch error.

To fix this error, turn off and then turn on your printer. If this doesn’t resolve the error, then you need to replace your printer’s clutch.

How to Replace the Clutch in HP Color LaserJet 2550 Printers – HP 2550l Printer Warning Lights

To replace the clutch in HP Color LaserJet 2550 printers, do the following steps:

Step 1: Remove the right-side and left-side covers of your printer.

i. Remove the screw from the right-side cover’s lower edge.

ii. Grasp the right-side cover by its handle as well as by the top area.

iii. Gently pull out the right-side cover while rotating it away from your printer and then lift it upwards.

iv. Remove the screw from the left-side cover’s lower edge.

v. Grasp the left-side cover by its handle as well as by the top area.

vi. Gently pull out the left-side cover while rotating it away from your printer and then lift it upwards.

Step 2: Remove the interface cover of your printer.

i. Remove the fuser

• Remove the power cord from your printer.
• Rotate the two fuser locks upward so that they are in the unlocked position.
• Remove the fuser from your printer by grasping the handles and then pulling it out.

Warning: The fuser’s internal surface parts are usually very hot; therefore, avoid touching those parts to prevent burns to your hands.

ii. Locate the tab at the interface cover’s top area and the other tab at the back of the cover.

iii. Release these tabs.

iv. To remove the interface cover, rotate the upper part outwards from your printer.

Step 3: Remove the formatter cage.

i. Unplug the connector by pinching the tab on the cable connector with the aid of a flathead screwdriver.

ii. Check the middle of the formatter cage, and remove the two screws in that area.

iii. Unplug the flat flexible cable.

iv. Check the right side of the formatter cage, and remove the two screws in that area.

v. Remove the formatter cage from the two hooks holding it in place by rotating the cage upward.

Step 4: Remove the back cover of your printer.

i. Remove the right-side cover and the left-side cover if you haven’t done so.

Follow the instructions in step 1 above to do this.

iii. With the aid of a flathead screwdriver, loosen the two internal tabs that hold the back cover in place.

iv. To remove the back cover, rotate the upper part outwards from your printer, and then downwards. This motion will free the internal tabs that are under the back cover.

Step 4: Remove the top cover.

i. Remove the right-side cover and the left-side cover if you haven’t done so.

Follow the instructions in step 1 above to do this.

ii. Remove the interface cover if you haven’t done so.

Follow the instructions in step 2 above to do this.

iii. Remove the back cover if you haven’t done so.

Follow the instructions in step 3 above to do this.

iv. Open your printer’s top door.

v. Release the gear by pressing the small tab that is on the gear.

vi. Take out the gear to free the top-door rack.

Note: Ensure that you reinsert the gear once the top door rack is released.

vii. Locate the three screws on the top cover and remove them.

viii. Remove the top cover by lifting it off your printer.

Step 5: Disconnect the hidden connector that is connected to the printer’s main motor.

Step 6: Disconnect the two connectors from the printer’s dc controller.

Step 7: Pinch the clutch’s cable holder.

Step 8: Unwind the cable connected to the clutch.

Note: Don’t disconnect the cable from the clutch as this action can cause damage to the clutch cable.

Step 9: Remove the e-clip holding the clutch.

Step 10: Pull the clutch away from your printer.

Step 11: Get the replacement clutch.

Step 12: Insert the replacement clutch into your printer from the position you took out the old clutch from.

Step 13: Reattach the e-clip to the clutch.

Step 14: Rewind the cable connected to the clutch.

Step 15: Return the clutch’s cable holder to its initial position.

Step 16: Reconnect the two connectors to the printer’s dc controller.

Step 17: Reconnect the hidden connector to the main motor.

Step 18: Reattach the top cover to your printer.

Step 19: Fasten the three screws on the top cover.

Step 20: Remove and then reinsert and secure the gear to fasten the top door rack.

Step 21: Close your printer’s top door.

Step 22: Reattach the back cover to your printer.

Step 23: Tighten the internal tabs with the aid of a flathead screwdriver to hold the back cover in place.

Step 24: Return the two hooks holding the formatter cage in place to their original position.

Step 25: Fasten the two screws into place at the right side of the formatter cage.

Step 26: Plug the flat flexible cable back in.

Step 27: Fasten the two screws into place in the middle of the formatter cage.

Step 28: Plug the connector back in.

Step 29: Reattach the interface cover to your printer.

Step 30: Fasten the tabs at the top area and the back of the interface cover.

Step 31: Reinsert the fuser into your printer carefully and slowly.

Step 32: Rotate the fuser locks to their locked position.

Step 33: Plug the power cord into your printer.

Step 34: Reattach the left-side cover to your printer.

Step 35: Fasten the screw to the left-side cover’s lower edge.

Step 36: Reattach the right-side cover to your printer.

Step 37: Fasten the screw to the right-side cover’s lower edge.

Check if the problem is resolved after replacing the clutch.

If the problem persists, then you need to service your HP printer.

8. Turned-on Attention and Ready Lights – HP 2550l Printer Warning Lights

After pressing the “Go” button, the attention and ready lights turn on. If you check the event log, you will see this error message: 50025. This occurrence is an indication of a carousel motor error.

To fix this error, turn off and then turn on your printer. If this doesn’t resolve the error, then you need to replace your printer’s motor.
